May

Oskar loves riding his bike and is getting pretty good at it.  We go to the church parking lot about once a week so he can ride around without me having to worry about him getting hit by a car.
We went to Travel Town a week or two ago to look at all the trains.  We got to go inside and look at the engine in one of the trains and we went on a tour through all the different cars.

I had just given Oskar a bath when he asked to listen to his Sesame Street music.  When I turned it on he just sat down right there and quietly listened for about 10 minutes.  When music is playing, depending on the music, he is captivated by it and will just sit still and listen.

Reading to his friends

We went to a park with friends on Memorial Day and took advantage of the short moments they were sitting down and got some pictures.

I finished the Batman cape!  Oskar loves it and wants to wear it everywhere.

Update on Oskar

Earlier this week we had another appointment with Dr. See, the pediatric gastroenterologist.  Since meeting with her last time about five or six months ago Oskar has grown about two inches but hasn't gained any weight.  I didn't think that would be too concerning because he's a very busy toddler but she thought it was a bigger deal than I did and has started him on yet another medication, making the total five now, three for reflux and two for asthma.  He's also taking laxatives but hopefully that won't be a long term thing.  Having him on so much medicine is already something I wish we didn't have to do but this new medication has some very scary side effects, tardive dyskinesia being the scariest.  I've not listened to the doctor enough times, been wrong about it, and had enough bad results that even though I don't feel good about this new medicine I'm doing it anyway.  Dr. See says the asthma is caused by the reflux and his lack of growth is also caused by the reflux.  This new medicine will hopefully tighten the muscles that are allowing acid to come up, help with the reflux, and also help the asthma.  He'll have a scope in a few weeks to see how everything is looking generally as well as taking a look at the abnormal cells they found last time.  She also put him on a higher calorie diet where he has a Pediasure in the morning and a meal replacement drink at dinner both taken with his regular meals. All this week since we saw the doctor he hasn't gone to sleep at night without screaming and crying for up to a half an hour, and he is throwing up again when he cries a lot so we're also dealing with that.  I hope all of this will work because I feel like I'm at the end of my rope emotionally dealing with these issues, although I've felt like this many times before and I've found there is more rope left to be discovered.

Baseball Boy

Talking

Oskar:  Can you wake up?
Jamie:  I am awake.
Oskar:  Can you wake up normally?  (Meaning, can you wake up and get out of bed, not just lay there)

Looking at a picture baby Lena:
"She's a dickens little baby!"

Oskar:  I LIKE JESUS
Jamie:  You like Jesus?  I like Jesus too. He loves us, huh?
Oskar:  I sure love him too!

Oskar was doing something he wasn't supposed to.
Grandma:  You're such a ... a...
Oskar:  Dickens!!

Me saying something
Oskar:  What's that noise your'e talking to?

"Talk about the letters or talk about the words." (read to me)

In the car:
Oskar: talking gibberish
Jamie:  what does that mean?
Oskar:  talking more gibberissh
Jamie:  What does THAT mean?
Oskar:  I don't know and I don't care.

"Good job driving, Mom!"

"There's a bee in my mouth." (anytime there is a peel of a fruit or a piece of food he doesn't like)

Jamie:  What are you doing?
Oskar:  I'm enjoying baseball!

Oskar came into Joel's office:
Oskar: Are you enjoying your work, Dad?

Keeps asking whenever he sits on his little wooden chair:
Oskar: How are you, Mom?
Jamie:  I'm good, how are you?
Oskar:  I'm good.

As we were driving up to the church:
Oskar:  Our church!  Listen to the Spirit.

We walked by a pile of dog poop and Oskar bent down to touch it.  I told him not to touch poop, it's gross, and that the poop was there because the owner was being irresponsible and didn't pick it up.
Oskar:  Maybe Santa should give the dog hands for Christmas and he can pick up the poop!

Oskar always asks us what we're doing and if we're enjoying what we're doing.

Baby Sister

Yesterday we had our 20 week ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby as well as find out general health information.  I was a little nervous going in because I was afraid she would be small which would mean there was a greater likelihood of me having pre-eclampsia again.  At the 14 week appointment they told us the baby was a girl and I felt like she was still a girl but I was excited to find out for sure.  The best news of the day was that everything looked perfectly normal and healthy.  She isn't small for her gestational age and the doctor said there would be no need to have another utrasound this pregnancy.  Of course that doesn't mean I won't have pre-eclampsia again but I feel like maybe it does mean that.  I'm only halfway through so I've got a lot of time to worry about it.
I think she looks like Oskar.

And this is the creepiest ultrasound I've ever seen.  It looks like she's smiling right at us but with a skeleton face.  Little trickster.

Big Bear

With encouragement from friends we planned a trip to Big Bear Lake with two other couples and stayed in a cabin for two days this past week.  It was really nice to get away from LA and go up to the mountains for a little relaxation although the relaxation was actually hard to come by, as it usually is with toddlers in tow.  But we had fun exploring the town, eating out, and playing games in the cabin.
The second day we set out for some adventure, bike rides around the lake was first on the list.  We had a hard time finding the path around the lake they were talking about so Joel, Oskar, and I just took a short ride around.  Oskar still loved it though.

Then we went to the Alpine Slide.  We rode up the hill in a chair lift and then down a water slide type run.  Technically pregnant people weren't supposed to ride but if anyone would have accused me and my even more pregnant friend of being pregnant we would have just gotten very offended.
Oskar was a little nervous on the chair lift the first time and kept saying, "I don't like this, I don't like this."  But by the second time he was a pro and got to ride once down the slide with me and once with Joel, of course Joel took him down way faster than I did.

It was a fun little trip!  Now we're planning just a girls night away with some real relaxation time.

Fun Around the House... er... Apartment

Just a bunch of pictures of my cute Oskar.  And the curtains Mom sewed for us with a tiny bit of help from me.
