6 weeks
Oskar is six weeks old now and has spent way too long in various ERs and hospitals. Yet with all the visits we've had the medical professionals continue to be stumped by our little precious. Our pediatrician said this was the most perplexing case he's seen in a long time. On Friday we went to the hospital to get some blood drawn and the people doing it were, in Joel's words, a bunch of pituitary cases. It took them three times with the needle and then when they were done they wrapped the gauze so tight it turned Oskar's arm blue. Then we went back again today to have more blood drawn and yet another X-ray. This poor child has had so much radiation coursing through his body he's going to get cancer. We have yet to hear back about the work done today. I just hope and pray they can find out what is wrong so we can fix it and move on with our lives. That would be really great.
He is 5 pounds 12 ounces now.

Back Home
We're home from the hospital now. After doing all the x-rays and ultrasounds and tests and making my baby miserable they essentially found nothing wrong. His heart is healthy, his lungs are healthy, he doesn't have any of the main strains of sickness they check for, and his blood looks fine. The only thing is that he breathes fast and sometimes uses more energy to breathe, which could be a normal newborn thing for him. So they sent him home with oxygen and he'll be on it until the pediatrician says we don't need to be anymore. I'm pretty confused because while I want Oskar to be healthy they didn't find too much to indicate that he wasn't healthy. But we're being cautious. I hope I don't have to take him back into the ER anytime soon and I hope we can get off oxygen ASAP and that he'll grow and be big enough that we don't have to worry as much.

Update
Well it's not RSV, we know that. Tomorrow we find out if it's the common cold or the flu. We have an echocardiogram which is an ultrasound on his heart to see if there are any abnormalities there. If these come up negative then it's off to Primary Children's Hospital to meet with a lung specialist and perhaps run some other tests. If all of these turn up negative then he just breaths fast and it's a mystery as to why. Thanks for the prayers.

... And We're Back
We're back in the hospital. We went to the ER at Primary Children's on Thursday because Oskar had blood in his stool and an elevated heart rate. They did an X-ray and blood work and everything looked normal so they figured it was a milk protein allergy and switched the formula he was on. Since then his poop has looked better but then this afternoon he started freaking out and crying really hard like he was hurting so we called the pediatrician and she told us to bring him back to the ER. After being at the Riverton Hospital ER for a couple of hours this evening he was admitted to the hospital because of an elevated heart rate and because it seems he is having to work a little bit harder to breathe. They did another X-ray and found spots on his lungs that could be the beginnings of a respiratory infection but also could just be that he's a young baby. So we're here at least overnight to watch him and see if he is getting sick not. He's also been eating less and sleeping more. It's been very terrible. I hate the hospital and I hate how much they poke and prod my baby and make him cry. So you know what to do ... keep on praying. Thanks.

Oskar's Coming Home
Oskar gets to come home tomorrow! I'm scared and excited, and pretty scared but really excited. He passed his car seat test today AND hit the 4 pound mark.
